One of the most prestigious polo tournaments, along with Argentina, UK and the United States, is going to create a summer’s meeteing point and social gathering in the Costa del Sol surrondings and particly Sotogrande.
The event is ranked by World Polo Tour as one of the four most important in the world for this spectacular sport and, year after year, it attracts many visitors from the Costa of all nationalities, whether they are residents or here on holiday. The 47th International Polo Tournament runs from 25th July to 1st September and takes place in the green fields and elegant grounds of Santa María Polo Club, one of the leading places in Spain for equestrian activities. Once again for 2018, there will be plenty of entertainment and services for visitors, some new and others firm favourites, with a friendly welcome for all guaranteed by the organisers. There’s over 35 evenings of polo to come, with matches every day, and we’ve created different areas for visitors to enjoy the best of the polo in comfort, including VIP zones with premium service. And all in a relaxed atmosphere with a casual dress code, where everyone can come just how they feel.
Polo is such a spectacular sport because of the sheer energy of the play, where the skill of the riders – the top ranked players in the world from over 20 nationalities – mixes with the power and versatility of a special breed of horse. Some 2,000 of these are brought to Sotogrande for the tournament and can reach speeds of up to 60 km/h. These incredible feats create a unique sport which is gaining followers all the time. During the 35 days of the tournament, teams fight for one of three titles; the Bronze Cup, the Silver Cup and the prized Maserati Gold Cup, each one with a different trophy, covering lower, medium and higher handicaps.
Santa María Polo Club transforms itself as well over these six weeks of summer into a top entertainment festival for all the family – even pets are welcome, turning the 47th International Polo Tournament into a first-class visitor attraction. While enjoying the spectacle of the polo, why not browse the boutiques or have a meal with the family after the game?
The most popular areas to visit are located right alongside the polo, such as the Shopping Village, with tented stores selling top brands, and the Gastro Garden, where you can order different culinary treats to try. There is also the Kid´s Area, with games and activities under the care of supervisors.
This year The 7th Chukker Club is a top new attraction; an exclusive, VIP area, to which guests with Premium tickets will have access. Located in the club’s central pavilion, it will feature live music and cocktails with top-brand spirits and starts up just as the matches are finishing:
PREMIUM SEAT grants acces to the 7th Chukker Club: Provide entertainment when polo ends with the best social and networking athmosphere, live music, DJ’s, performances, premium cocktails, and much more.
Live music has also been planned throughout the festival for every visitor to enjoy, with performances of everything from funk, soul, jazz and Cuban to 80s tribute groups and a DJ on different parts of the grounds.
To finish off your day, there’s the “Discoterraza” for winding down after polo every night. Here the fun continues well into the night and special parties will be held here every Friday and Saturday.
